Canadian Parliament Building in Lockdown After Soldier Shot Nearby by VOA News Ottawa police said a soldier standing guard at Canada's National War Memorial has been shot, and reporters at the scene said shots have been fired in Canada's nearby parliament buildings. Witnesses said after the shooting at the War Memorial the gunman escaped in the direction of the parliament buildings, which were placed on a security lockdown. Heavily armed police backed by armored vehicles surrounded the parliament building and the office of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. A Harper spokesman said the premier left the area of the shooting and is "safe." The wounded soldier was taken to a hospital. His condition is not known. No one claimed responsibility for the shooting so far. The shooting comes two days after an Islamic convert in a car ran down two Canadian soldiers, killing one, near Montreal. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/shooting-near-canadian-parliament/249 2218.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/shooting-near-canadian-parliament/2492218.html
