Judge to Sentence Pistorius in Girlfriend's Killing by VOA News South African runner Oscar Pistorius is due to learn his sentence Tuesday, nearly seven months after going on trial for the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Judge Thokozile Masipa will announce the punishment, which prosecutors argued should be 10 years in prison. The athlete's defense team said three years of house arrest and community service would be appropriate, and that as a double-amputee he would face difficulties in South Africa's prison system. Pistorius was convicted last month of culpable homicide for shooting Steenkamp through a locked bathroom door at his home in February 2013. He said he mistook her for a nighttime intruder. The Olympian faced a more serious charge of murder, but Masipa ruled that prosecutors did not prove he intentionally shot Steenkamp. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/judge-sentence-pistorius/2490559.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/judge-sentence-pistorius/2490559.html
