Kerry, China's Top Diplomat Pledge to Overcome Mistrust by VOA News The United States and China have stressed the need to overcome mistrust, manage their differences and cooperate on combating terrorism, the Islamic State group and the spread of the Ebola virus. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and China's State Councilor Yang Jiechi also pledged to cooperate on Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea and climate change, during a second day of talks on Saturday in the U.S. city of Boston. Both diplomats said the relationship between the two countries is mature enough to handle disagreements while building on areas of shared interest. Yang said the U.S. and China need to improve cooperation on issues related to the Asia-Pacific region because that area has seen strong economic development. Talks in Boston Kerry had opened his home in Boston to China's top diplomat for two days of talks aimed at warming Sino-U.S. ties ahead of a bilateral summit next month. U.S. President Barack Obama and China's President Xi Jinping are set to meet after the summit. Chinese and U.S. officials said the talks were to cover a broad range of global issues, including nuclear negotiations with Iran and protests in Hong Kong. Officials said the agenda also is likely to include the Ebola outbreak and the fight against Islamic State extremists in Iraq, where China has significant energy interests. Kerry met in Washington earlier this month with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Those talks highlighted differences over Hong Kong's ongoing pro-democracy demonstrations. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/us-china-relations-pledge-to-overcome -mistrust/2488340.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/us-china-relations-pledge-to-overcome-mistrust/2488340.html
