Judge Sets Tuesday Deadline for Pistorius Sentence by VOA News Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius will learn his fate Tuesday when a South African judge will hand down the sentence over the shooting death of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. The judge adjourned the court Friday after lawyers delivered their closing arguments in the sentencing hearing. The prosecutor said 10 years in prison would be the "minimum term that society will be happy with." The runner's attorney argued for Pistorius - a double amputee - to avoid incarceration, saying the track star had become a victim in the case and has been "treated unfairly." Pistorius was convicted last month of culpable homicide, equivalent to the charge of manslaughter, in Steenkamp's killing last year. He called the shooting a tragic accident after he mistook his girlfriend for an intruder. But Steenkamp's cousin, Kim Martin, said during the hearing Thursday she did not believe his apology for the killing. She told the judge, "I think we need to give a message to society that you cannot do this and get away with it." __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-sentencing-adjourned-to-nex t-week/2486848.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-sentencing-adjourned-to-next-week/2486848.html
