Strong Earthquake Strikes off Coast of El Salvador by VOA News A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of El Salvador, killing at least one person and raising the possibility of a tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 7.4 quake struck late Monday in the Pacific Ocean about 169 kilometers southeast of the capital, San Salvador, at a depth of 70 kilometers. Wilfredo Salgado, mayor of the city of San Miguel in El Salvador, said a man was killed when an electrical pole collapsed and fell on him. There were no other reports, so far, of damages or fatalities.
