Crowd Scuffles with Hong Kong Protesters by VOA News Hundreds of people, some of them wearing masks, have clashed with the protesters in central Hong Kong who have spent weeks demonstrating for democratic reforms in the Chinese territory. Some in the group confronting the protesters Monday tried to break down barriers erected at the site. Taxi drivers also expressed their opposition by honking their horns and yelling at the protesters. Along the edges of the protest site, police cleared away some of the barriers to ease traffic around the area. The demonstrations began in late September with the protesters, many of them university students, calling for the leader of the semi-autonomous city's leader to resign and for the Chinese government to let Hong Kong voters elect their own without restrictions on candidates. Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying has said he will not step down. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/crowd-scuffles-with-hong-kong-protest ers/2481791.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/crowd-scuffles-with-hong-kong-protesters/2481791.html
