                     Landslide in Northwest China Kills 19

   Chinese authorities say a landslide in the northwestern province of
   Shaanxi has killed at least 19 people and injured two others.

   The official Xinhua news agency says the landslide ripped through a
   construction site late Friday, tearing down makeshift homes for
   workers.

   The report said nine construction workers were killed at the scene,
   while 10 others died after being taken to a hospital.

   Xinhua gave no indication about what may have caused the landslide,
   which is a common occurrence in China's mountainous areas.
