IS Nearing Syrian Border Town, as Turks Consider Action by VOA News Islamic State militants are closing in on the Syrian town of Kobani, on the Turkish border - as Turkey's parliament prepares to vote on whether to authorize military action against the group. An organization monitoring the conflict, Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Kurdish fighters were battling IS militants within hundreds of meters of the town, which is also known as Ayn al-Arab. Turkey's government has requested that lawmakers authorize the use of military force to counter terrorist groups in neighboring Syria and Iraq. The vote could also allow foreign forces to operate from Turkey against the Islamic State. More than 160,000 refugees have crossed into Turkey from the Kobani area since an IS offensive began in mid-September. Turkey was already home to more than a million Syrians who fled the civil war in their country. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/islamic-state-nearing-syrian-border-t own-as-turks-consider-action/2469887.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/islamic-state-nearing-syrian-border-town-as-turks-consider-action/2469887.html
