Mali Monitors More Than 300 Ebola Contacts by VOA News Health authorities in Mali say they are monitoring 338 people linked with the country's six fatal Ebola cases, and most of them under daily surveillance. In a news release, the World Health Organization said Thursday that all 118 people who had direct contact with the Ebola victims have completed their 21-day incubation period without developing symptoms. The release said tracking a victim's contacts, in order to break chains of transmission, has proven the most effective way of containing the disease, as shown in neighboring Senegal and Nigeria. The WHO has updated its Ebola figures, saying Wednesday that there have now been a total of 5,420 Ebola deaths among 15,145 cases in this most recent outbreak. It cautions, though, that the number of cases and deaths continue to be underreported. There have been a handful of cases elsewhere in the world, including the United States, but the West African countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone remain the epicenter of the epidemic. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/mali-monitors-more-than-three-hundred -ebola-contacts/2527714.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/mali-monitors-more-than-three-hundred-ebola-contacts/2527714.html
