             Community Groups Tackle Social Problems in California

   American cities are dealing with high rates of unemployment in the
   inner city, violent crime and other social problems, along with often
   tense relations with police. In Oakland, California, several groups are
   tackling these issues at the grass-roots level through local community
   programs. VOA's Mike O'Sullivan reports.
