Obama to Nominate NYC Prosecutor as US Attorney General by VOA News The White House says President Barack Obama will nominate Loretta Lynch as attorney general of the United States to replace the outgoing Eric Holder. United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Loretta Lynch, if confirmed, would be the first African- American woman to hold the post. The White House said Obama will announce his intention to nominate her to the post on Saturday. It described Lynch as a strong, independent prosecutor who has twice led one of the most important U.S. Attorney's Offices in the country. The 55-year-old Harvard Law School graduate grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. She began her career as a federal prosecutor in 1990. In 2010 she was appointed to the Attorney General's Holder Advisory Committee. Lynch served as U.S. attorney in Brooklyn from 1999 to 2001 before working in the private sector.
