US to Send Another $300 Million to S. Sudan by VOA News The United States is promising another $300 million in humanitarian aid to South Sudan, where the United Nations says 4 million people are at risk of starvation. The State Department says the U.S. is responding to immediate food needs, including supplements for malnourished children. The U.S. is the largest single donor to South Sudan, giving more than $434 million since last year. But the State Department says help can only be effective if the government and opposition stop fighting and putting up obstacles to delivery. The latest U.S. aid came at an international donors' conference for South Sudan in Oslo Thursday. Participants pledged $600 million. But U.N. officials say that is far short of the $1.8 billion that is needed. Some information for this report comes from AFP and Reuters. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/us-to-send-another-300-million-to-s-s udan/1918951.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/us-to-send-another-300-million-to-s-sudan/1918951.html
