Syrian Crisis a Key Issue at Arab League Summit by VOA News U.N.-Arab League envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi is due to address Arab leaders Tuesday, as they meet for an Arab League summit in Kuwait. The meeting comes a day after he said peace talks meant to find an end to more than three years of conflict in Syria will not continue anytime soon. Brahimi said Monday the conditions for a new round have not been met. Syria's government and the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad have held two rounds of negotiations that ended in late January, but have so far made little progress. Brahimi told the U.N. Security Council that Syria's plan for holding elections in July will likely make the opposition uninterested in talking with the government. Kuwait said leaders at Tuesday's summit will again call for an end to the fighting that has killed more than 140,000 people since March 2011. They also plan to give more support to Syria's neighbors who have taken in millions of Syrian refugees. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/syrian-crisis-a-key-issue-at-arab-lea gue-summit/1878496.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/syrian-crisis-a-key-issue-at-arab-league-summit/1878496.html
