Obama Meets with Abbas About Mid-East Peace Talks U.S. President Barack Obama meets Monday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the White House to discuss the stalled Middle East peace process. The meeting comes ahead of the April 29 deadline for a framework peace agreement for the troubled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Mr. Obama met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu two weeks ago. After more than seven months of U.S.-mediated peace talks, there is growing pessimism and acrimony. The two sides do not appear to have made much visible progress on narrowing their gaps on the major issues in the more than six-decade dispute. Their differences include the status of Jerusalem, the fate of Palestinian refugees, borders and security. The U.S. hopes a framework deal will prevent the collapse of the peace process and enable negotiations on a final agreement to continue until the end of the year. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-meets-with-abbas-about-mideast- peace-talks/1872613.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-meets-with-abbas-about-mideast-peace-talks/1872613.html
