Thousands March in Turkish Teen's Funeral Tens of thousands of people chanting anti-government slogans marched through central Istanbul Wednesday for the funeral of a Turkish teenager wounded in street protests last summer whose death has sparked renewed unrest across Turkey. Riot police fired tear gas to disperse thousands of protesters in the capital, Ankara, and in the coastal city of Izmir a day after 15-year-old Berkin Elvan`s death on Tuesday. Mourners chanted "Berkin Elvan is immortal," "Government resign!" and "Murderer Tayyip," referring to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Some protesters hurled stones at a ruling party building, smashing its windows. The unrest added to Mr. Erdogan`s pre-election woes as he battles a corruption scandal that has become one of the biggest challenges of his time in power. Mr. Erdogan, on the campaign trail ahead of March 30 municipal elections, addressed a rally in the southeastern city of Siirt but failed to mention the teenager`s death in a lengthy speech. The embattled prime minister has acknowledged the polls will act as a referendum on his rule. ### __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/thousands-march-in-turkish-teens-fune ral/1869686.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/thousands-march-in-turkish-teens-funeral/1869686.html
