              Indian Maoists Wage Deadly Attack on Security Forces

   Maoist rebels have killed at least 20 members of India`s security
   forces in an attack in the center of the country.
   The rebels are reported to have ambushed the patrol Tuesday in the
   volatile Chattisgarh state. The Indian forces returned fire, engaging
   the rebels in a major gunbattle.
   The Maoist rebels have fought for decades in central and eastern India,
   demanding land and jobs for agricultural laborers and the poor.
   Thousands of people are believed to have died in Maoist-linked
   violence. The rebels often target security forces and infrastructure,
   and have said they want to build a communist state.
