                        Suicide Bomber Kills 12 in Iraq

   Police in southern Iraq say a suicide car bomber has detonated his
   explosive-rigged vehicle at a security checkpoint, killing at least 12
   people.
   Officials say 60 people were wounded in the blast Sunday at the
   northern entrance of the Shi`ite-dominated city of Hillah, nearly 100
   kilometers south of Baghdad.
   Iraq has been experiencing its worst violence in recent years, driven
   primarily by widespread discontent among its Sunni Arab minority and by
   the civil war in neighboring Syria. More than 1,400 people have been
   killed this year.
