World Cup Viewers Bombed in Nigeria by VOA News Witnesses say an explosion ripped through a venue in northeastern Nigeria where people had gathered to watch the World Cup Tuesday. There were no immediate reports of deaths from the blast in the town of Damaturu, but hospitals were reporting casualties. Damaturu is the capital of Yobe state, which has been devastated by attacks from the militant Islamist group Boko Haram. Boko Haram militants have killed thousands of people during their five-year insurgency to establish an Islamic state in Nigeria's northeast, with attacks on schools, churches, mosques, bus stations and other public places.
