Netanyahu Calls on Abbas to Help Return Kidnapped Teens by VOA News Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he expects Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to help in returning three Israeli teenagers kidnapped last week from the West Bank and in catching those who abducted them. A statement from Netanyahu's office Monday said the two leaders spoke by telephone. It also quoted Netanyahu saying the kidnappers came from and returned to territory under Palestinian control. He has blamed the kidnappings on members of the militant group Hamas, which denies the allegation. Meanwhile, a statement from Abbas' office Monday condemned the kidnappings, and also criticized a wave of Israeli arrests. Israeli troops arrested 80 Palestinians on Sunday in Hebron, in the area where the youths disappeared last Thursday. Many of those arrested were Hamas members. Netanyahu said the disappearance of the youths was the direct result of the newly formed Palestinian unity government between Hamas, which Israel considers a terrorist organization, and Fatah. Palestinian spokesman Ehab Bseiso said Sunday the three Israeli youths disappeared from an area of the West Bank controlled by Israelis and the Palestinian Authority is working in coordination with Israel in the search for the missing teens. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry described the kidnappings as a "despicable terrorist act" and called for the immediate release of the three teenagers. He said "many indications point to Hamas involvement," noting that it had carried out kidnappings in the past. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/netanyahu-calls-on-abbas-to-help-retu rn-kidnapped-teens/1937643.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/netanyahu-calls-on-abbas-to-help-return-kidnapped-teens/1937643.html
