House Majority Leader Cantor Loses Primary to Tea Party Candidate by VOA News There has been a major upset in a congressional primary election which could have a huge impact nationally. Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia was defeated Tuesday by a little-known college professor from the ultraconservative Tea Party movement. Cantor conceded the election Tuesday night. With most of the votes counted from Virginia's 7th district, David Brat was on track to win by a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent. He will be the Republican candidate in the November election. Tuesday's loss is a stunning and unexpected blow for Cantor, the second-most powerful member of the Republican-controlled House, who was a Tea Party favorite in previous elections. Cantor was known for his demands to cut government spending, but Brat accused him of not being conservative enough and also being soft on immigration. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/house-majority-leader-cantor-loses-re publican-primary-to-tea-party-candidate/1934166.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/house-majority-leader-cantor-loses-republican-primary-to-tea-party-candidate/1934166.html
