                    Eight Injured in Cambodia Demonstration

   Cambodian riot police clashed with anti-government protesters in the
   capital Monday, injuring at least eight of the demonstrators.
   Police fired smoke canisters and used batons to disperse hundreds of
   demonstrators in front of the Information Ministry in Phnom Penh. The
   protesters demanded a license for a new television channel that would
   be independent of the government of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
   The protest was led by radio station owner Mam Sonando. His Beehive
   Radio broadcasts the Voice of America, Radio Free Asia and other
   international programming.
   Currently, all TV stations have close links to the government, which
   maintains that there are no frequencies available.
   The government imposed a ban on street demonstrations in the capital
   after a wave of protests in early January challenging the results of
   last year's election, which the opposition alleges was rigged.
