                      Israel's Sharon in "Grave Condition"

   Medical officials say former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon,
   hospitalized since a stroke eight years ago, is now in "grave
   condition" after his health deteriorated sharply Thursday.
   Officials at the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv said Mr. Sharon is
   close to death and surrounded by family.
   Mr. Sharon served as prime minister from 2001 until the stroke that
   left him hospitalized in a coma in January 2006.
   Medical officials say his kidneys and other vital organs began to fail
   a week ago.
