Russians Dominate Final Day of Winter Olympics in Sochi Russians have dominated the competition on the final day of the Winter Olympics they hosted in Sochi. Russian skiers won gold, silver and bronze in the first of the day`s three medal events. Alexander Legkov finished ahead of two countrymen to win the grueling 50-kilometer cross-country mass start. Later, the hosts took the gold in the 4-man bobsleigh, led by Alexander Zubkov, who had already won the 2-man event. Latvia earned the silver medal Sunday, and the United States took the third-place bronze, piloted by Steven Holcomb in his favorite event. The only competition that remains before what is expected to be a spectacular Closing Ceremony is the gold-medal men`s hockey game between defending champion Canada and Sweden. Russia ends up with both the most overall and gold medals at the 2014 Games. The hosts finished with 33 total medals - 13 of them gold. The U.S. has 28 medals, followed by Norway with 26. Norway followed Russia in gold medals with 11. Canada could stand alone in third with a hockey victory. Canada is currently tied with the U.S. with nine gold medals. Despite strong threats of violence ahead of the Sochi Games, the Olympics have been very safe heading into the final day. The next Winter Games will take place in South Korea in 2018. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/russians-dominate-final-day-of-winter -olympics-in-sochi/1857382.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/russians-dominate-final-day-of-winter-olympics-in-sochi/1857382.html
