              France's Vaultier Wins Snowboard Cross Olympic Gold

   France's Pierre Vaultier has won gold in the men's snowboardcross at
   the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
   Russia's Nikolay Olyunin won silver and American Alex Deibold won
   bronze in Tuesday's event, which was postponed from Monday because of
   heavy fog.
   Slovenia's Tina Maze led the women's giant slalom after the first of
   two runs Tuesday, as she tries to win her second gold medal at this
   year's games. Austria's Anna Fenninger, already a gold medal-winner in
   the super G, was in fourth, with the 2010 gold medalist from Germany,
   Viktoria Rebensburg, in sixth place.
   American Julia Mancuso failed to finish her first run, but 18-year-old
   fellow U.S. skier Mikaela Shiffrin was fifth after her Olympic debut.
   In other medal events Tuesday, China will look for a third gold in
   short-track speed skating in the women's 3,000-meter relay, while
   American freestyle skier David Wise, the world champion, is favored in
   the inaugural halfpipe event.
   Frenchman Martin Fourcade is seeking his third Sochi gold, after
   inclement weather twice forced the postponement of the men's
   15-kilometer mass start.
   Monday, the United States ice dancing team of Meryl Davis and Charlie
   White won the gold, topping the Canadian duo of Tessa Virtue and Scott
   Moir. Russians Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov finished third.
   Belarus captured two gold medals, with biathlete Darya Domracheva
   winning her third in the 12.5-kilometer mass start biathlon, after
   earlier victories in the women's pursuit and individual competitions.
   Another Belarussian, skier Anton Kushnir, won the gold medal in men's
   aerials, beating competitors from Australia and China.
   Russia's Alexander Zubkov and Alexey Voevoda won the two-man bobsled
   race, the host country's first-ever title in the event. They triumphed
   over teams from Switzerland and the United States.
   Germany edged Austria to win the gold medal in men's team ski jumping,
   with Japan collecting the bronze medal.
   Russia and the U.S. have now won 19 medals apiece at Sochi, just ahead
   of the Netherlands at 17. Germany has won the most gold medals with
   eight, followed by six countries with five each.
