               Russians Head Into Holiday Facing Economic Malaise

   Russian preparations for the New Year holiday are clouded by economic
   recession and a tumbling currency, the ruble. Nonetheless, people in
   the Russian capital appear to be in a festive mood. VOA's Daniel
