Activists: Kurdish Fighters Reclaim Syrian Town from IS by VOA News Syrian activists say Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria have reclaimed the town of Qassiab after clashes with the Islamic State group that left at least 30 militants dead. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday that the militants had seized the area earlier this week in Hasakah province near the Turkish border. Kurdish fighters have been battling the Islamic State group in several border towns as they try to push back against the militant surge that overtook large areas of eastern Syria and northern and western Iraq. On Wednesday, the militants claimed they shot down a Jordanian F-16 fighter near their stronghold in Raqqa, which the U.S. military later said was not true. A U.S. Central Command statement said the plane crashed, but that evidence "clearly indicates" Islamic State fighters were not responsible. The militants did capture the pilot, who was flying as part of the U.S.-led coalition that is carrying out airstrikes against Islamic State targets. The Jordanian army said it is holding the militants responsible for the pilot's life and safety. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/kurdish-fighters-reclaim-syrian-town- /2573211.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/kurdish-fighters-reclaim-syrian-town-/2573211.html
