British Rocker Joe Cocker Dead at 70 by VOA News Blues and rock and roll singer Joe Cocker has died of lung cancer at age 70. The British-born singer was known for his rendition of the Beatles' song "With a Little Help From My Friends," as well as singles such as "You Are So Beautiful" and "(Love Lifts Us) Up Where We Belong." His singing voice was a throaty growl that lent depth and texture to the lyrics of the songs he recorded. He was known as well for an unruly shock of curly hair, and for keeping company with the likes of the Rolling Stones and another gravelly-voice British rocker, Rod Stewart. He rose to fame in the mid-1960s and built a career that spanned 40 years. In 2007, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contribution to British music. A statement from Sony Music says Cocker was at his home in the U.S. state of Colorado when he died late Sunday. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/british-rocker-joe-cocker-dead-at-sev enty/2569552.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/british-rocker-joe-cocker-dead-at-seventy/2569552.html
