Tunisians Vote in Historic Presidential Runoff by VOA News Voters in Tunisia are choosing their first freely elected president in a runoff election seen as a landmark in the country's move to democracy. The vote Sunday represents the final stage in the country's transition since the so-called Arab Spring revolution that overthrew long-ruling President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. Tunisia was the first country to depose its leader in the Arab Spring, and it inspired other uprisings in the region. The vote pits Beji Caid Essebsi, an 88-year-old minister in previous Tunisian governments, against rights activist and the current interim president, Moncef Marzouki. Essebsi is a favorite to win after taking 39 percent of the vote in last month's first round, while Marzouki won 33 percent. More than 5 million Tunisians are eligible to cast ballots in the poll. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/tunisian-vote-in-historic-presidentia l-runoff/2567773.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/tunisian-vote-in-historic-presidential-runoff/2567773.html
