Palestinians Prepare UN Draft on Israeli Withdrawal by VOA News The Palestinian leadership at the United Nations is preparing a draft resolution for a Security Council vote that sets a deadline for Israel's withdrawal from the occupied territories. The Palestinian U.N. representative, Riyad Mansour, had said the plan for a two-year timetable for an Israeli-Palestinian peace accord would be introduced Wednesday in a form that could be voted on. By early evening, however, the 15-member council had not voted, and Mansour said there was still room for negotiations on the measure. The United States, which holds veto power on the council, was widely expected to veto the resolution. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who met Monday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said it was important to avoid anything that might be perceived as interfering with Israeli elections set for March. The Palestinians would need the approval of nine of the 15 Security Council members, but any of the five permanent council members can veto a resolution. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/palestinians-prepare-un-draft-israeli -withdrawal/2563756.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/palestinians-prepare-un-draft-israeli-withdrawal/2563756.html
