Activists: Al-Qaida Fighters Seize Syrian Base by VOA News Activists say fighters from the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front have seized an army base in northwestern Syria. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said militants from a group called Jund al-Aqsa helped the Nusra fighters take the Wadi Deif base in Idlib province on Monday. Opposition forces have carried out multiple sieges of the base since 2012. The site is located about one kilometer from the main north-south highway in Syria, which links the key cities of Aleppo, Hama and Homs to the capital, Damascus. The state-run SANA news agency reported Syrian forces killing several "terrorists" in the area near the base. The government routinely refers to opposition fighters as terrorists. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/activists-al-qaida-fighters-seize-syr ian-base/2559098.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/activists-al-qaida-fighters-seize-syrian-base/2559098.html
