Activists in Washington March for Racial Justice by VOA News Family members of four black men and boys killed by U.S. police or security personnel are joining in a march Saturday in Washington to protest what many Americans describe as police brutality and racial injustice. Relatives of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin gathered at Freedom Plaza, near the White House, to march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the U.S. Capitol. The event is part of a planned [1]National Day of Resistance, organized by the group Ferguson Action. It comes in the wake of Brown's August shooting death by white police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri, and Garner's July choking death involving white officers in Staten Island, New York. In both cases, grand juries decided not to indict the officers. The Washington march was organized by the Reverend Al Sharpton, leader of the National Action Network and a host for the MSNBC television channel. Other planners said the national march would conclude outside the U.S. Capitol building with a demonstration calling for national reform on how police are investigated and how they use force against suspects. Marches and rallies also were planned Saturday in numerous communities - from the southern state of Mississippi to the Midwestern campus of Indiana University to the Canadian city of Toronto, Ontario. __________________________________________________________________ [2]http://www.voanews.com/content/activists-in-washington-march-for-rac ial-justice/2557774.html References 1. http://engage.fergusonaction.com/solidarity_actions?page=2 2. http://www.voanews.com/content/activists-in-washington-march-for-racial-justice/2557774.html
