            Indonesian Awaits Court Ruling on Presidential Election

   Police in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta forcibly broke up a rally
   Thursday held in support of defeated Indonesian presidential candidate
   Prabowo Subianto.

   Police fired tear gas and water cannon when the crowd tried to break
   through a security barricade at a road leading to the Constitutional
   Court, where the justices had just begun a lengthy reading of their
   decision on Subianto's legal challenge of last month's election.

   Official results show Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo won 53 percent of
   all votes cast, taking in well over 8 million more votes than
   Subianto.  The former army general is alleging widespread voter fraud,
   but observers say the court is unlikely to rule in Subianto's favor.

   If the election results are upheld as expected, Widodo will be able to
   press ahead with transition efforts before taking office on October 20.

   Thursday's reading of the court's verdict is expected to take several
   hours to complete.
