Hamas: Israeli Airstrikes Kill 3 Senior Commanders by VOA News Hamas says an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip has killed three of the group's senior commanders. Officials said the bombing early Thursday in Rafah destroyed a four-story house and killed at least five other people. It comes a day after another Israeli airstrike killed the wife and infant son of Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas. The Israeli military said Thursday it struck 20 targets in the Palestinian territory overnight in response to militant rocket fire. The United Nations Security Council expressed "grave concern" Wednesday at the resumption of violence, which had paused for a 10-day cease-fire and peace talks. All 15 council members urged both sides to again halt the fighting and return to negotiations on a long-term truce. At least 2,050 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its offensive on July 8 to stamp out militant rocket fire and destroy tunnels used by Hamas. Israel says 64 of its soldiers have been killed along with three civilians. The Palestinians are demanding Israel end its blockade of Gaza and Israel insists Hamas demilitarize. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/hamas-israeli-airstrikes-kill-3-senio r-commanders/2422993.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/hamas-israeli-airstrikes-kill-3-senior-commanders/2422993.html
