Red Cross Workers Kidnapped in Afghanistan by VOA News The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says it is trying to secure the release of five of its workers who have been kidnapped in Afghanistan. ICRC spokesman Marek Resich says a local armed group kidnapped the workers on Friday in western Herat province. Resich said the international relief organization was working on multiple levels on Saturday to secure staff members' release. Police in Herat province say the relief workers were delivering sheep to local villages when they were stopped by gunmen. Investigators say the attackers also took the sheep. There was no claim of responsibility for the abductions. In the past, Islamist militants have targeted foreign and local aid workers. Some information for this report comes from AP and Reuters. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/red-cross-workers-kidnapped-in-afghan istan/2415850.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/red-cross-workers-kidnapped-in-afghanistan/2415850.html
