Palestinians Accuse Israel of Breaking Truce by VOA News Emergency workers in Gaza City say an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp there has killed an eight-year-old girl and wounded 30 people. Officials say the strike in the Shati refugee camp happened Monday, just minutes into an Israeli-declared temporary truce. The Israeli military said it is looking into the report. Israel said it was holding a cease-fire Monday in most of the Gaza Strip to allow Palestinians access to humanitarian aid and for displaced civilians to return to their homes. Just hours before the truce was scheduled to start, an Israeli airstrike killed a militant Palestinian leader. The Islamic Jihad group said its commander in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, Danyal Mansour, died when the strike hit his home. Israel positioned tanks near the Gaza border Monday before the cease-fire went into effect. Hamas is skeptical of the truce announcement, and urged Palestinians in Gaza "to take caution." Earlier, an Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza town of Rafah killed at least 10 civilians who had sought shelter in a United Nations school. The Israeli military later said it had targeted three suspected militants near the school, and said it was "reviewing the consequences" of the strike. It also said Monday's truce will not apply to Rafah, where military operations were set to continue. It is the third time in 10 days that a U.N. school has been the target of lethal explosions that have drawn international condemnation. The latest attack also drew a strong rebuke from U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon, who called it "a moral outrage and a criminal act." The U.S. State Department called it "appalling." Witnesses said Sunday's strike occurred as residents seeking shelter at the school were waiting in line for food. In the chaotic aftermath, several bodies, including those of children, were strewn across the ground in pools of blood. Also Sunday, Israel began pulling some troops from Gaza while redeploying others within the Palestinian territory. An Israeli military spokesman said its forces are "extremely close" to completing the mission to destroy Hamas tunnels used to store weapons and sneak into Israel. The military also said more than 50 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel Sunday. Palestinians say Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed 1,800 Palestinians, most of them civilians. More than 8,000 have been wounded. Israel says 64 of its soldiers and three civilians have been killed. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/palestinians-accuse-israel-of-breakin g-truce/1970936.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/palestinians-accuse-israel-of-breaking-truce/1970936.html
