Pistorius Felt 'Helpless' After Shooting by VOA News South African runner Oscar Pistorius testified for a third day Wednesday, telling the court he felt "helpless" while waiting for an ambulance to arrive after he shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius said he tried to help her breathe and to stop the bleeding from a gunshot wound on her hip, but that by the time help arrived, it was too late. "Reeva had already died while I was holding her, before the ambulance arrived, so I knew that there was nothing that they could do for her," said Pistorius. In his testimony Tuesday, Pistorius said he thought he was shooting at an intruder when he fired through a locked bathroom door at his Pretoria home that night. Prosecutors say Pistorius intentionally shot Steenkamp. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of pre-meditated murder and three firearm-related offenses. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison. Pistorius is known as the "blade runner" for his prosthetic legs. He became the first double-amputee to compete in the Olympics when he ran at the 2012 games in London. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-felt-helpless-to-aid-steenk amp-after-shooting/1889356.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-felt-helpless-to-aid-steenkamp-after-shooting/1889356.html
