Pistorius Continues Testimony at Murder Trial by VOA News South African runner Oscar Pistorius is back on the witness stand for a second day of testimony, after telling the court Monday he was trying to protect girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp the night he shot her dead. His lawyer began Tuesday's questioning by asking Pistorius about his relationship with Steenkamp. The defense is presenting its side of the case, trying to convince the court that Pistorius is not guilty of murdering Steenkamp at his Pretoria home last year. Pistorius apologized to Steenkamp's family on Monday before answering questions about his life before and after the shooting, as well as the difficulties caused by his carbon-fiber prosthetic legs. Prosecutors say Pistorius intentionally shot Steenkamp. The defense says he thought he was shooting at a nighttime intruder when he fired his gun through a bathroom door. Pistorius has pleaded not guilty to charges of premeditated murder and three firearm-related offenses. If convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison. Pistorius is known as the "blade runner" for his prosthetic legs. He became the first double-amputee to compete in the Olympics when he ran at the 2012 games in London. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-continues-testimony-at-murd er-trial/1888484.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/pistorius-continues-testimony-at-murder-trial/1888484.html
