Mandela Spends First Night at Home Nelson Mandela has spent his first full day at home after being discharged from a Pretoria hospital. The former South African leader and anti-apartheid icon was discharged Sunday after spending nearly three months in intensive care. There were no official updates on his condition Monday. A statement from President Jacob Zuma`s office Sunday said Mr. Mandela`s condition remains "critical and at times unstable." It says he will continue his recovery at his home north of Johannesburg and receive the same level of intensive care that he did in the hospital, administered by the same doctors. The 95-year-old former leader was rushed to the hospital June 8 because of a recurring lung infection. He has been in and out of Pretoria`s Mediclinic Heart Hospital for much of the past year. Mr. Mandela is revered in South Africa and beyond for his role in ending official racial discrimination and white minority rule. After spending 27 years in prison, he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was elected South African`s first black president the following year. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/mandela-spends-first-night-at-home/17 41546.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/mandela-spends-first-night-at-home/1741546.html
