UN Envoy Travels to Iran to Discuss Syria Crisis by VOA News The U.N.-Arab League envoy for Syria is in Iran as part of a regional tour aimed at building support for a peace conference in Geneva next month. Lakhdar Brahimi flew to Iran Saturday. His schedule calls for him to meet with high-ranking Iranian officials on the Syria crisis, including Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, and on next month's proposed conference in Geneva. Brahimi has previously called on Iran to participate in the so-called "Geneva Two" conference, which would be aimed at establishing a transitional government to run Syria and prepare it for democratic elections. Iranian officials have said they are willing to help settle the Syria crisis through diplomatic means. The conflict in Syria has killed more than 100,000 people and displaced millions more since it began in March 2011. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/un-envoy-travels-to-iran-to-discuss-s yria-crisis/1777578.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/un-envoy-travels-to-iran-to-discuss-syria-crisis/1777578.html
