Egypt's Leaders Condemn Deadly Attack on Copts Egypt`s government and religious leaders have condemned an attack outside a Coptic church in Cairo that killed four people, including an eight-year-old girl -- the latest in a rising wave of assaults targeting the country`s Christian minority. Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi pledged that Sunday night`s deadly shooting would "not succeed in sowing divisions between the nation`s Muslims and Christians," calling it a "callous and criminal act" and vowing the perpetrators would be brought to justice. In the attack - among the deadliest in weeks - two masked gunmen on a motorcycle fired on wedding guests outside a Coptic church in a Cairo suburb. Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, the top cleric at Al-Azhar, the world`s primary seat of Sunni Islamic learning, also condemned the attack in a statement Monday, calling it "a criminal act that runs contrary to both religion and morals." The priest at the church where the attack took place said his community has had enough of the violence. "What is happening is targeting all of Egypt and not only the Christians. This is enough, people are getting sick and tired of this." Egyptian Christians, most of whom are Copts, have been targeted since former president Mohamad Morsi was swept from power by the army amid mass protests against his year-long rule. Islamists were enraged by the deadly crackdown that followed against pro-Morsi supporters and accused Coptic Christians of backing the coup that toppled Morsi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood and was Egypt`s first democratically elected president. ### __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/egypts-leaders-condemn-deadly-attack- on-copts/1773693.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/egypts-leaders-condemn-deadly-attack-on-copts/1773693.html
