Clashes Erupt in Egypt After Friday Prayers Clashes erupted after Friday prayers in Egypt as thousands of supporters of the nation`s ousted president attempted to demonstrate against the military government that deposed him. The Reuters news agency reported that one protester died of a gunshot wound in central Cairo after marchers clashed with Egyptian security forces. Despite a weeks-long security crackdown and hundreds of arrests of Muslim Brotherhood backers of ex-President Mohamed Morsi, demonstrators Friday seemed determined to take to the streets in Cairo and several Egyptians cities. A strong military presence was evident to try to stop people from converging on Tahrir Square, a focal point in the last three years of dissent and demands for political and social change. Police fired tear gas on protesters as they approached the square on Friday. Egypt`s interim military regime says the crackdown against protests is a defense against "terrorism." __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/clashes-erupt-in-egypt-after-friday-p rayers/1763032.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/clashes-erupt-in-egypt-after-friday-prayers/1763032.html
