Judge Postpones Ft. Hood Massacre Trial The military judge in the Fort Hood, Texas massacre trial has put off the proceedings for a week, to consider defendant Major Nidal Hasan`s request for a three-month delay. Hasan is accused of killing 13 and wounding 32 fellow soldiers in 2009. Jury selection was supposed to have started Wednesday. But Hasan asked the court for a postponement to give him time to prepare his new defense strategy. Hasan is acting as his own attorney. He wants to use a so-called "defense of others" argument, under which he must prove he acted to save the lives of others. Hasan has made it clear that the "others" he wanted to save were Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Some legal experts say this may prove Hasan was acting as an enemy combatant. The experts say military prosecutors are reluctant to call Hasan`s alleged killings an act of terrorism because they say that would make it hard for him to get a fair trial. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/judge-postpones-ft-hood-massacre-tria l/1676141.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/judge-postpones-ft-hood-massacre-trial/1676141.html
