Hood Suspect to Represent Self During Trial by VOA News A military judge has ruled the Army psychiatrist charged in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage can represent himself at his upcoming murder trial. The judge ruled Maj. Nidal Hasan is mentally competent in his decision to fire his attorneys, meaning he will question the more than two dozen soldiers he is accused of wounding. Hasan's lawyers will remain as advising attorneys and may be called upon if he asks for their help. Hasan faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole if convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder. Jury selection is set to begin Wednesday and opening statements are scheduled for July 1. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/ft-hood-suspect-to-represent-himself- during-trial/1674240.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/ft-hood-suspect-to-represent-himself-during-trial/1674240.html
