Polls Close, Counting Begins in Cambodia Election Polls have closed in Cambodia and vote counting has begun in general elections that are expected to extend Prime Minister Hun Sen`s 28-year rule. Opposition leader Sam Rainsy alleges the long-time ruler is running an unfair vote and has threatened demonstrations if his party finds evidence of fraud. Sam Rainsy and his Cambodia National Rescue Party say the prime minister`s Cambodian People`s Party is afraid of the opposition`s growing popularity. He accuses the government of setting up a system that ensures Hun Sen of winning another term. The CPP denies the allegations and predicts a landslide win. It credits the prime minister with bringing economic prosperity to Cambodia after decades of war, chaos, and mass murder. Election results are expected late on Sunday. Sam Rainsy returned to Cambodia from self-imposed exile July 19 after Hun Sen arranged to pardon him for a series of crimes. Sam Rainsy said his convictions were politically motivated. More than 9.6 million people were registered to vote in the elections. At least one-third are under the age of 30. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/polls-close-counting-begins-in-cambod ia-election/1711548.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/polls-close-counting-begins-in-cambodia-election/1711548.html
