Togo Holds Twice-Delayed Parliamentary Vote Voters in Togo are going to the polls Thursday to take part in parliamentary elections that analysts say will test the support of the country`s president, whose family has led the nation for nearly 50 years. The vote is taking place after being delayed twice by opposition demands, including electoral reforms. Voters in the West African nation are choosing from nearly 1,200 candidates to fill 91 seats. The Economic Community of West African States has sent 80 observers to support the election process and promote good governance in the region. Togo last picked a parliament in 2007, and has a presidential vote scheduled for 2015. That poll will take place 10 years after President Faure Gnassingbe was elected following the death of his father, who served as president for nearly 40 years. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/togo-holds-twicedelayed-parliamentary -vote/1709684.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/togo-holds-twicedelayed-parliamentary-vote/1709684.html
