Iraqi Forces Kill 5 Protesters in Fallujah Iraqi troops killed at least five protesters and wounded more than 40 others on Friday when they opened fire on demonstrators in the city of Fallujah. Police say protesters were marching to join an anti-government rally in eastern Fallujah, a mostly Sunni-town just west of Baghdad, when the soldiers blocked their way. The protesters began throwing objects at the security forces, who responded by opening fire. It is not immediately clear if troops fired into the air or directly at the crowd. Witnesses in Fallujah told VOA`s Kurdish Service that demonstrators also attacked a checkpoint and set fire to a military car. The rally in Fallujah is part of weekly Friday demonstrations that erupted last month in western Anbar province in protest of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Iraq`s majority Shi`ite rule, which Sunni protesters say marginalizes their sect. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/iraqi-forces-kill-5-protesters-in-fal lujah/1590756.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/iraqi-forces-kill-5-protesters-in-fallujah/1590756.html
