                Zimbabwe Sets Date for Constitutional Referendum

   Zimbabwe has set Saturday, March 16, as the date for a referendum on
   the country's proposed new constitution.
   That gives election officials just over a month to prepare.
   The country's main political parties, ZANU-PF and the MDC, both support
   the draft, the result of a long and often-contentious writing process
   that began in 2009.
   The Southern African Development Community has demanded the new
   constitution be approved before Zimbabwe holds elections to replace the
   unity government which was put in place after the violent 2008
   elections.
