Leaders Expected to Address Syria, Mali at OIC Summit Leaders from Islamic nations are in Egypt for two days of talks that are expected to address the crises in Syria and Mali, as well as Israeli-Palestinian relations. The 56-member Organization of Islamic States opens its summit in Cairo Wednesday, following earlier meetings this week by the group`s foreign ministers. A draft statement set to go before leaders at the summit largely blames Syrian President Bashar al-Assad`s government for the country`s nearly two years of bloodshed. It also calls for political dialogue and an immediate end to the fighting that has killed 60,000 people. The OIC suspended Syria`s membership in August, issuing a statement that condemned Mr. Assad for using lethal force against his people. Leaders at the summit also plan to discuss economic, social and cultural issues focusing on addressing poverty and accelerating development in their countries. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/leaders-expected-to-address-syria-mal i-at-oic-summit/1598070.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/leaders-expected-to-address-syria-mali-at-oic-summit/1598070.html
