                 Gunman Assassinates Tunisian Opposition Leader

   A Tunisian opposition leader critical of the country`s Islamist-led
   government has died after being shot Wednesday outside his home in the
   capital, Tunis.
   Chokri Belaid was a leading member of the opposition Popular Front.
   Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali called his death a crime against Tunisia.
   More than 1,000 protesters gathered outside the interior ministry in
   Tunis to denounce Belaid`s killing and chant against the Ennahda party
   that leads the government.
   The site is the same place where anti-government protests began two
   years ago, eventually toppling the country`s leader and launching the
   wave of Arab Spring protests across the Middle East and North Africa.
   Tunisian President Moncef Markouzi canceled his planned trip to a
   summit in Cairo because of the killing.
