Haiti Protesters Demand Higher Minimum Wage by VOA News Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets of Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, to demand an increase in their wages. Factory workers say the government's recommendation to raise the minimum wage from $4.54 to $5.11 for an eight-hour work day, an increase of 13 percent, is insufficient. Workers, carrying tree branches as a symbol of grassroots solidarity, are demanding twice that amount. The raise is due to take effect on January 1, pending approval from the ministry of social affairs. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/haiti-protesters-demand-higher-minimu m-wage/1808705.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/haiti-protesters-demand-higher-minimum-wage/1808705.html
